Manufacturer’s LEED Statement & Point Contribution Guide

The following is a review of how MOPEC may help a building achieve LEED rating points.
LEED – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design was established by the USGBC (United States Green Building Council), and is the most widely accepted standard used to establish sustainability ratings for buildings. A facilities LEED rating is based on the overall number of points accrued:

  • 26-32 Points for Certified
  • 33-38 Points for Silver
  • 39-51 Points for Gold
  • 52-69 Points for Platinum.

LEED for NC (New Construction) version 4.0 awards points in the following categories:

  • Sustainable Site
  • Water Efficiency
  • Energy & Atmosphere
  • Materials & Resources
  • Indoor Environmental Quality
  • Innovation & Design Process

Material & Resources, Energy & Atmosphere, and Indoor Environmental Quality is the applicable categories for stainless steel autopsy and necropsy equipment where MOPEC may be able to help a facility gain points.

Energy & Atmosphere

The Energy & Atmosphere (EA) category deals with a number of issues but is primarily focused on the energy performance of buildings. MOPEC equipment may be eligible for the following:

  • EA Prerequisite: Fundamental Refrigerant Management
MOPEC Cold Room and Refrigeration Units are CFC free.
  • EA Credit: Enhanced Refrigerant Management
MOPEC Cold Room and Refrigeration Units use non-ozone depleting refrigerants by using R404 and R134A refrigerants.
  • EA Credit: Optimize Energy Performance
MOPEC provides an LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting option in lieu of fluorescent lighting. LED lights provide an approximate energy savings of 1/3 of fluorescent lighting.

MATERIAL & RESOURCES

The goals for the Material and Resources (MR) category is to reduce the amount of harvested raw material and utilize the recycling of raw materials in Pre-Consumer content and Post-Consumer content. MOPEC equipment may be eligible for the following:

  • MR Credit: Building Product Disclosure and Optimization – Sourcing of Raw Materials
    Recycled Content
MOPEC uses stainless steel material that has recycle content range of 67% – 97%*.
  • Regional Materials MOPEC manufacturers many of our products in Oak Park, MI. Shipping to locations within a 500 mile radius of our manufacturing location may provide eligible LEED credits.

*It is not possible to state with accuracy the actual percentage of recycled materials used during the manufacturing of metal grades. Each manufacturing process can result in a significant variation in the amount of recycled scrap used in metal production, even within the same metal grade type. Furthermore this information is not made available to us with each shipment. Many producers have different manufacturing processes, which also accounts for the variation in the amount of recycled content.

INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL EQUALITY

The goal of Indoor Environmental Quality credit is to reduce the exposure of building occupants and construction workers to irritating or harmful air contaminants. Many of the materials and products used in buildings give off gas volatile organic compounds (VOC). Exposure to these substances can have negative health impacts. MOPEC equipment could be eligible for the following categories:

  • EQ Credit: Low-Emitting Materials: Paints and Coatings
The use of MOPEC stainless steel products eliminates the needs for paint and coatings.
  • EQ Credit: Enhanced Indoor Air Quality Strategies
    Interior Cross-Contamination Prevention:
MOPEC provides air filtration options on our dissecting tables, grossing stations, wall mounted sinks, and embalming carts.
