Madison Heights, MI – [October 30, 2025] – Mopec, a leader in anatomic and forensic pathology solutions, is celebrating as Nicole Leon is named the 2025 National Society for Histotechnology (NSH) Histotechnologist of the year.
We are proud to shine the spotlight on Mopec Clinical Advisory Board member Nicole Leon, who has been named the 2025 National Society for Histotechnology (NSH) Histotechnologist of the Year. This prestigious award, presented annually, honors an individual who exemplifies dedication, service, and involvement in advancing the profession of histotechnology. Nicole was recognized during a General Session at the NSH Annual Convention in Long Beach, CA, where she received a plaque and $1,000 award.
Nicole’s journey into pathology began by chance during her senior year at UW–Green Bay. Faced with the question of what to do with her Human Biology degree, she discovered the field of histology almost by accident. What started as a last-minute decision soon became a lifelong passion. She has spent the majority of her career in leadership roles, consistently demonstrating a commitment to advancing the field. She is an active member of NSH, where she regularly volunteers her time by presenting workshops and webinars, as well as supporting the organization’s broader strategic initiatives. Nicole also supports NSH’s Histotechnology Training Program as a preceptor.

As a member of our Advisory Board, Nicole has already made a lasting impact. She brings a clear voice for the critical foundation that histology provides to all downstream testing and is helping ensure that innovation never loses sight of these fundamentals.
Driving Quality and Efficiency
Nicole has identified key areas in the microtomy workflow where additional quality control checks could reduce inefficiencies, helping ensure consistent, high-quality sections that support diagnostic accuracy. She has also emphasized the importance of aligning embedding and processing protocols with evolving technologies, highlighting opportunities where better standardization can reduce error rates and improve reproducibility across laboratories.
Championing the Role of Histotechnologists
Nicole reminds us that while emerging technologies like spatial genomics, proteomics, and advanced imaging hold incredible promise, their success ultimately relies on the solid foundation provided by histology. Through her contributions, she bridges future-focused innovation with the everyday practices of tissue processing, embedding, and microtomy—ensuring the essential voice of histotechnologists is not lost in the push toward next-generation pathology.
Shaping Collaborative Innovation
Nicole is an active collaborator, asking thoughtful questions that connect innovation to real-world workflows. She has pushed the group to think not only about “what’s next,” but also about “what must remain strong.” Her insights help guide our work toward solutions that are both visionary and practical.
When asked what excites her most about serving on the Advisory Board, Nicole shared:
“It is a true honor to serve as a Histology subject matter expert on this advisory board and to contribute to Mopec’s vision looking toward the future of pathology. I am both humbled and excited to be part of such an important dialogue—one that seeks to define a ‘pathology utopia’ and explore the next chapter of meaningful innovation in our field. I look forward to collaborating on initiatives that will help shape the future of pathology.”
Nicole is energized by the transformative potential of new technologies to improve patient care and laboratory practice. At the same time, she underscores the importance of protecting the fundamentals: “Great results start with high-quality histology.”
We are honored to celebrate Nicole not only for her national recognition as Histotechnologist of the Year but also for the expertise, perspective, and dedication she brings to our Advisory Board. Her contributions reflect our shared mission, vision, and purpose at Mopec—to enrich life by building the platform for the treatment of disease. Congratulations, Nicole!
